Plot summary
Steeple Falls takes pride in its Halloween traditions, and Frank Carlyle ran a horror shop there. After Frank dies, his grandson Richard returns from Boston with his children, Ian and Claire, to settle the inheritance. Ian discovers that his great-grandfather's house is haunted, and local legend says the historic owner, Zachariah Kull, was burned at the stake. Among the ghosts are Jumper, a dead skydiver, and Coffin Ed, a soldier from the Revolution, who answer to Mariah, a dead bride. Ian and Claire follow the spirits into the forest to a building where ghosts pass through a mirror, and learn that the three look for souls that will not cross over.
