Plot summary
Jack Sander is an undefeated fairground boxer. A challenger beats him in the ring. Bob Corby is a boxer. Both men are in love with Mabel. Bob's manager offers Jack a place as Bob's sparring partner if he wins a trial fight. Jack wins and becomes Bob's sparring partner. Jack and Mabel marry the next day. Jack and Mabel's marriage is flat, and Mabel looks to Bob for comfort.

- Hitchcock's idea for The Ring came from the London boxing matches he attended, where he was struck that many spectators looked well-off and dressed in white, and that fighters were sprinkled with champagne at the end of each round.
- The Ring is usually called Hitchcock's only original screenplay, though it actually had input from Eliot Stannard, who wrote all of Hitchcock's other silent films.
- The film used the Schüfftan process to fake a large crowd in its Royal Albert Hall scenes, and Hitchcock returned to the technique years later in The Man Who Knew Too Much.
