Clare Greet
Biography
Clare Greet was an English stage actress who also appeared in films. Born in Leicestershire in 1871, she trained under Hermann Vezin, Emile Behnke, and Ben Greet, then made her first stage appearance in 1891 with the Ben Greet Company, taking many roles in Shakespeare and old comedy. She went on to perform frequently in London's West End from 1907 to 1938, including in premieres of Bernard Shaw's The Doctor's Dilemma, Major Barbara, and Androcles and the Lion. Earlier she had played at the Pavilion Theatre, Whitechapel, and made her West End debut at the Strand in 1894 as Hetty in The Love Letter. She also toured the United States, South Africa, and the British provinces. Her screen work ran from 1921 to 1939. She died in 1939.
