Plot summary
The year is 1506, and the sorcerer Dr. Erasmus Craven still mourns his wife Lenore, to the dismay of her stepdaughter Estelle. One night a raven comes to him. The bird is the wizard Dr. Bedlo, whom Dr. Scarabus changed in a duel. A potion restores Bedlo to his human shape, and he reports that he saw Lenore alive at Scarabus's castle. Bedlo wants revenge on Scarabus, and Craven wants to find his wife. Craven's coachman attacks them under Scarabus's influence, and Estelle and Bedlo's son Rexford join the journey.

- Peter Lorre and Jack Nicholson played father and son in The Raven, but Roger Corman said the tension between them came from the actors rather than the script, because the two did not get along well.
- Roger Corman said Peter Lorre's improvisations confused both Vincent Price and Boris Karloff, and that when Lorre started improvising lines it threw Karloff off from his carefully worked out preparation.
- Vincent Price recalled that Boris Karloff hated being strung up in the air on chairs for the final duel, and that both men floated on wires, which was not a pleasant feeling.
- In The Raven, the burning interior of the castle was footage reused from Roger Corman's earlier 1960 film House of Usher.
