The Paradise Virus (2003) on Netflix

Plot summary

Dr. Linda Fleming is a teacher and an expert virologist. She arrives on Barsarato, a tropical island, for a short vacation with her eighteen-year-old son. The islanders are falling ill with a virulent disease, and the unknown virus that causes it is carried from chickens to humans. Linda gives relief to the people who are affected. The local hospitals on the island are poor, and the residents give her little cooperation, so her efforts are wasted. They put blind faith in Joseph, a healer of exceptional charisma who leads a religious community. That community preaches faith in God and promotes the remedies of alternative medicine.
