Plot summary
Jeff and Cash, two cowboy friends riding through the desert of the Southwest, come upon a baby left alone in a covered wagon. They will not abandon the child, but each wants to raise him, and their argument over the boy splits the partnership for good. Cash keeps the baby. Years later the foundling, Bill Holbrook, is a young man working the cattle ranch beside his adoptive father. Jeff has stayed near the spot where the infant was found and runs his own ranch at the water hole there, where his daughter Mary Ellen lives with him. When Cash wants to water his herd at Jeff's water hole, Jeff prepares to stand him off, aided by Rance Brett, a drifting cowboy taken with Mary Ellen. Cash's herd stampedes and the stand-off is put off.
