Plot summary

At the Ballard radium mine, caretaker Adolph Borg has been crushed to death in the mill stamp, and the killing is blamed on Jack Parson, the brother-in-law of mining engineer Larry Sutton. Sutton arrives to take over Parson's job as chief engineer and works the case alongside deputy sheriff Tex Murdock. The mine's bed-ridden owner, Jim Ballard, has been told he is dying, and his heirs have come to the ranch to wait on the estate: his niece Flora, his nephew Fritz, his niece Rita, and the housekeeper Mrs. Borg with her son John, along with a servant, Ling Yat. A hooded figure is at work on the property, and the guests at the house all have alibis.
