Plot summary
In May 1977, Colleen Stan, twenty, is on her way from Oregon to California to see friends. About forty miles short of her destination, she accepts a ride from Cameron and Janice Hooker, a young couple. They take her at knifepoint and hold her in a box under their bed, bringing her out to work as their slave and to care for their child. The story is told through Janice, who came under Cameron's sway at sixteen and could not meet his appetite for extreme bondage. She offers him a bargain: she will let him keep a slave if he stops using her and allows her to have a child.
