Plot summary

At Queens University of Charlotte, Zoey Miller, a computer major, does not believe in the traditional idea of romantic love and has designed an app that matches people by algorithm. On Valentine's Day she argues in a history class that the holiday is a capitalist creation. The school's soccer star, Zack MacLaren, kicks a ball into her head on campus. He later leaves his credit card behind in the campus bookstore where she works; she chases him with it and sees him crash his bike into a reversing car. When he comes to, he mistakes her for his girlfriend, who shares her first name. At the hospital his parents make the same mistake, and a doctor asks that Zach not be upset while he recovers, so the family has her to dinner.
