Plot summary
Robin and Daniel cannot conceive, and they want to build a family. They foster Kathelia, a young orphan who is mute and who survived a violent childhood, and she comes to live with them. The two of them mean it as an act of love. The violence of Kathelia's past has returned, and it reaches into the household they are trying to make.

- Paul Etheredge conceived The Other from a vivid nightmare he had in his 20s while on vacation in Costa Rica, as he awaited the birth of his first child.
- To minimize production costs, Paul Etheredge shot the film primarily at his mother's home and property in Dallas's Lakewood neighborhood, where principal photography ran for 30 days between May and June 2023.
- Paul Etheredge revived the idea from his dream in the early 2020s with longtime friend and producer Jeffrey Reddick, but the financing fell apart and producer Lisa Normand was brought in; the film, originally titled Psychopomp, became the first feature produced by Normand's Camp Lucky Studios.
