The Ordeal (2004) on Netflix

Plot summary

Marc Stevens makes his living singing easy listening songs at retirement homes, and days before Christmas he sets off toward his next engagement through the countryside of the Hautes Fagnes. Rain and darkness catch him on a forest track, a shape darts across the road, and the engine stalls for good. A young man named Boris, out looking for his dog Bella, guides Marc to an inn where nobody has stayed in years but the rooms are clean. The owner, Bartel, tows the van into the courtyard the next morning and offers to repair it, mentioning that he once worked as a comedian. He also warns Marc to keep away from the nearby village.
