Plot summary

Fossilized DNA lets scientist Catherine Viciy clone a prehistoric sabretooth tiger, and the animal is kept at a laboratory, where a janitor is killed after locking himself inside its cage. During transport the creature breaks free, kills the driver and reaches the forested mountains of the Pacific Northwest, where a vacationing couple and then a group of trainee guides, learning the terrain from senior guides, fall into its path. Catherine and her colleague Anthony Bricklin hire big-game hunter and tracker Robert Thatcher to find the animal, telling him it is an African lion and offering fifty thousand dollars. In the mountains the three reach the cabin where the vacationers were killed. When Catherine learns Thatcher intends to alert the police and Animal Control, she throws away his satellite phone.
