Plot summary

Kate and Justin are about to become parents for the first time. New downstairs neighbors Jon and Theresa are expecting a baby too, and the two couples meet for dinner so that they can get to know one another. Kate and Justin were a couple for ten years before they decided to try, and Kate became pregnant soon after; Jon and Theresa had spent seven years trying to conceive. Theresa has been drinking wine secretly through the evening. She says she feels sick and rises to leave; on the way out she trips over the cat on the stairs and falls. The baby she meant to name Peter is lost.
