Plot summary
In Cleveland in 1973, Marv runs an old Jewish deli whose business is struggling. He keeps it open around the clock to draw a younger crowd, and neighborhood do-gooders want the place closed. The regulars include Doug and Dee, two hippies who live off others, Sheldon, a radical with no cause, and Benny, an older man who asks everyone too many questions. Susan arrives as the new waitress, a small-town girl facing difficult customers and a questionable romance. She also draws the attention of Marv and the resentment of Grace, the head server and Marv's mistress. Marv tries one plan after another to keep the deli going.
