Plot summary

John and George Danes are twin brothers who work as The Generalists, taking on unusual jobs for unusual people. Their next task takes them to Idlewyld House, which once belonged to Harriet Landrigan, a bestselling romantic novelist. Before they leave, a man comes to their door. He will not explain how he knows the twins are expected at the house, and when they ask his name he answers only that he is the murderer. Then he vanishes. At Idlewyld House the brothers ask whether anyone there wants a killing investigated, and they are told that nothing of the kind has gone on. A guest is then found dead at the foot of the stairs.
