Plot summary
Ray Jenkins repairs televisions in Melbourne and plays for a football team. When the 1983 season ends, the players spend a weekend in Thailand. His friend Gavin, who does small jobs for the property owner and crime figure Pat Shepherd, asks him to bring heroin back to Australia. Ray refuses at first, but his stepfather John is deep in gambling debt and his mother Judy could be in danger if the money is not paid, so he agrees. In Thailand, Gavin seals half a kilogram of heroin in condoms and makes Ray swallow them. At Melbourne Airport, Ray panics and customs officers hold him. Croft and Paris, two agents of the Australian Federal Police, take him into custody. His lawyer Jasmine Griffiths says he can be held four days in a hotel room.
