The Monk (2011) on Netflix

Plot summary

Ambrosio is a respected Capuchin monk in Spain and a celebrated preacher. Left at the monastery as an infant, he is raised by monks who once feared that his birthmark was a sign of the Devil. Antonia and her aunt Leonella hear him preach and are struck by his eloquence. A wealthy young suitor, Lorenzo, calls on Antonia, but her mother Elvire refuses to let them marry until he has his uncle's consent. The monastery takes in a new novice, Valerio, brought from Burgos by his godfather Imanol Estevez; a mask covers burns he suffered in a house fire. Ambrosio tells his mentor Father Miguel about a dream of a woman in crimson, and Miguel says it was likely the Virgin Mary. Miguel warns him that evil has entered the monastery.
