Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Six weeks into filming, director RZA pushed the crew to work faster to stay on schedule; his assistant director then told him the pace was injuring stunt workers, who were being sent to the hospital, so RZA abandoned some planned shots and replaced them with CGI.
- RZA's first cut of the film ran four hours, and he wanted to split it into two films, but co-writer Eli Roth disagreed; it was ultimately cut to 96 minutes to avoid a restrictive rating, and RZA stopped editing for two weeks out of disgust at having to cut it.
- During his fight scene with RZA, actor Dave Bautista suffered raw, bleeding arms from RZA's sandpaper-like prop iron fists.
- The role of The Abbot, eventually played by Gordon Liu, was written specifically for RZA's own Shaolin teacher, Shi Yan Ming, who could not get permission to return to China to film it.
