Plot summary
In 1990, a handful of friends in their twenties put on a spoof of the Miss America pageant in a tiny apartment in West Hollywood. What began as a spur-of-the-moment joke returns year after year as the Best in Drag Show and becomes the longest-running drag benefit in Los Angeles, staged before thousands of people. The money it raises goes to the Alliance for Housing and Healing and its work for those living with HIV and AIDS, and the total passes $6 million. A-list actors appear in its shows along the way. The documentary follows the event through queer life and activism from the 1990s to today.
