Plot summary
In Dream Land, trains carry wishes and dreams to the Real World. Little Engine works there as a small shunter and wants to be a Dream Hauler, and the senior hauler Rusty urges her on. In the Real World, school bullies Scott and Stretch take a pocket watch that belonged to Richard's grandfather. Richard runs to a park, climbs into a train, and does not know that Rusty is the one leaving for Dream Land. His arrival collapses the tunnel between the two worlds, leaving him and the trains stuck. The Tower takes Rusty off hauling duty and puts him to cleaning track, which upsets Little Engine. Rusty tells her of an old route across Dream Mountain, and she offers to bring Richard home if Rusty gets his place back.
