Plot summary

Anders Harris retires from a career in finance and moves out on Helene, his wife, so that freedom might restore his old appetite for life. He fills a condo's empty shelves and sleeps with strangers, and he still loves Helene. Preston, their grown son, is a recovering addict who lives with Helene. Anders still legally owns the house Helene occupies and is six months behind on its mortgage. At a Christmas party Helene co-hosts with their neighbor Sophie Ashford, Anders feels isolated and drifts outside to join Sophie's son Charlie and his friends.
