Plot summary

A herd of Longnecks reaches the Great Valley, led by the Old One, after rain soaked their old home and left a marshland they call the Land of Mists, home to dangerous creatures. Littlefoot meets Ali, a Longneck from that herd, and asks her to play, but she has never mixed with other species and keeps away from his friends. Grandpa then falls ill, and the Old One says the sickness is deadly to any dinosaur unless they eat petals from the golden night flower, which grows nowhere but the Land of Mists. The Longnecks will not take Grandma to find it. Littlefoot asks Ali to lead him, and she agrees only if his friends do not come along, saying they would slow the two of them down.
