Plot summary
Colin teaches school in London and watches the 1960s sexual revolution from the sidelines. He has little experience with women and wants to learn the knack of seducing them from Tolen, his friend and lodger, who is confident with women. Tolen advises more protein, intuition and dominating women, and suggests another friend move into Colin's spare room so the men can share women. Colin nails the front door shut, so Tolen brings his women in through the window. Tom, passing by, occupies the vacant room and paints everything white, windowpanes included. Colin finds a wrought-iron double bed in a scrapyard, where he meets Nancy, a shy newcomer to London who is looking for the YWCA. A clothing shop clerk flatters her until she hears him repeat the same words to other customers.
