Plot summary

Steven Murphy is a cardiothoracic surgeon in Cincinnati who lives with his wife Anna and their children, Kim and Bob. At a diner he meets Martin Lang, a sixteen-year-old whose father had died some years before, and invites him to meet his family. The Murphys like Martin, and Kim enjoys his company most. Martin asks Steven to dinner at his own house; after the meal Martin goes to bed, and his mother comes on to Steven and tells him that her son wants them to have sex. Steven leaves angrily. Martin turns up at Steven's office with chest pain, but the tests Steven runs come back normal. His requests for Steven's time keep coming, and Steven becomes frustrated and concerned, particularly after Martin drives Kim home on his motorcycle.
