Plot summary
Paul Mandell, a Swedish scientist, has built a device that tracks submarines, with money from the American government and Miller as its representative on the project. Then the workshop burns out and the laser unit is gone. Stig Larsson, of the Swedish Secret Agency, treats the theft as an inside job and recruits Thomas Kallin, a Marine, to get close to Mandell and find out what he can. Kallin takes the post of Mandell's driver and says nothing about the order that sent him. The story comes from a Cold War incident, when a Soviet submarine was sighted in Swedish waters.

- The film's story is rooted in real events: on 28 October 1981 a Soviet submarine was detected in Swedish waters off the top-secret Karlskrona naval base, and officially neutral Sweden, which had never managed to seize a Soviet submarine, pushed for tough countermeasures and found itself caught in the East-West conflict.
- Inside Man - Der Mann aus der Kälte largely ended Hardy Krüger's cinema career, closing a four-decade run on the big screen.
