Plot summary
John Longridge, a bachelor in the Ontario woods, plans a long hunting trip. Three pets are boarding with him: Tao the Siamese cat, Luath the Labrador and Bodger the elderly Bull Terrier, all belonging to the Hunter family, who are away. Longridge leaves his housekeeper a note about letting the animals out for a morning run, and Tao knocks half of it into the fireplace. The next day Longridge lets the three into his yard for a run and departs. Geese overhead are flying home, and Luath heads west, the other two following.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about The Incredible Journey (1963)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Because Ontario's filming season was too short to shoot the film there, producer Jack Couffer first traveled to Port Arthur to visit author Sheila Burnford and photograph the surrounding countryside, using the pictures to pick a filming location that fit the area as closely as possible.
- Author Sheila Burnford spent seven days with the crew, including one session in which they filmed the Siamese cat fishing in a creek and landing its flapping catch with a "lightningswift professional paw" as many times as the director wished.
- The Incredible Journey was the last film scored by longtime Disney composer Oliver Wallace, who died two months before the film came out.
