Plot summary
Wallace comes back to Los Reyes County, Arizona, the border town where he grew up and where people had believed him dead. He takes the sheriff's post from Leland, a retired lawman who works alongside him; Leland retired after a routine check went badly wrong. Along this stretch of the Mexican border, dealers profit by moving guns and ammunition to the cartels. Wallace is drawn into a bloody inquiry into those behind a deal that fell apart. Atticus, a hit man in a cartel's pay, carries a kill list, and a stash of money from the trade threatens the town's peace.
