Plot summary
Sophia, a college professor, is recently divorced and has moved to southern Italy with her daughter Helena. They live in an apartment inside an austere building from the Fascist era, and an old storage room holds a mysterious closet and a buried secret. On the day Helena loses her first baby tooth, the two are in a car accident, and afterward the girl tells her mother about strange visions at night. Helena speaks to an invisible visitor in the closet and buys teeth from other children at school, saying she needs them for the tooth fairy. Sophia begins looking into the history of the building.
