Plot summary
Maryann, newly orphaned, comes to live with her grandparents and feels the loss of the friends she left behind. Wandering the area, she finds Andy, a boy her own age who uses a wheelchair and stays in a secluded home with his mother, Dr. Katherine Young, and his father, Richard Young, a nurse. The two children become friends, and Maryann climbs in through his window to play video games. Richard lets her in the next day. Katherine will not allow visitors, and when she tells the grandparents that Andy is dying, they forbid Maryann to see him, but she keeps slipping into the house while the parents are away.

- The Harvest was so independent that one man, Gerry Kessler, wrote a single personal check for $6.5 million to fund it, with the State of New York adding about $3 million in subsidies. No company stood behind the film.
- Director John McNaughton sought a PG rating for The Harvest, promising no overt violence, bad language, sex or nudity, but was refused because the concept was too dark; he said the only thing to point to was the overall moral tone, as with Henry.
- For director John McNaughton, The Harvest was the first feature film he had made in over a decade, since Speaking of Sex in 2001, and his first horror project since the 2006 Masters of Horror episode Haeckel's Tale.
