Plot summary

Political conflict in Poland has sharpened in recent years and has pulled the country apart. Marta and Tita are patriots on opposite sides of that divide. Each is proud of her country and its history, and each wants the best for Poland, yet their patriotism does not bring them together. Marta commands a paramilitary unit, speaks up for Christian values and backs the governing Conservative party; she would take Poland out of the EU. Tita is a liberal atheist activist who hates weapons, campaigns for democracy and is happy inside the European Union. The film traces the country's political developments through the two of them.
