Plot summary

Jews from North Africa and the Middle East arrived in the newly created State of Israel in the 1950s. The state denied them a better life and sent them to development towns in the Negev Desert. Two decades later, in Jerusalem's poor Musrara neighborhood, a movement that took its inspiration from the American Black Panthers pressed for basic rights. One of its leaders had come from Morocco. His daughter, a French-Israeli filmmaker, now mourns him. She sets out with her own daughter on a road trip through Israel's periphery, meeting Mizrahim of three generations. The discrimination remains a taboo in Israeli society, and new generations still live with its consequences.
