Plot summary
In the third century BC, Ying Zheng, King of Qin, has six other Chinese kingdoms left to conquer, and he wants them to believe that he cannot be beaten. He sends his concubine, Lady Zhao, to a rival court as a spy, ordering her to find an assassin who can be turned against him, since an attempt on his life would give him a reason to make war. Lady Zhao persuades Jing Ke to take the role, and she grows fond of him. Meanwhile the king's cruelty mounts, and her loyalty to him begins to waver.
