Plot summary
In Taipei, widower Chu is a semi-retired master chef who shares a large house with his three grown daughters. Sunday dinners are the household's ritual. Jia-Jen, the eldest, teaches high school chemistry and holds to her Christian faith, guarded since a college heartbreak. Jia-Chien works at an airline and once loved to cook, until her father discouraged it. Jia-Ning, the youngest, studies and works part-time at a fast food restaurant. At one Sunday meal Jia-Chien says she has bought an apartment and plans to move out, and she tells her father his cooking has lost its edge. He rushes off to help his old friend Old Wen at a banquet. Men enter the sisters' lives: a volleyball coach, a chief negotiator at the airline, and a friend's on-and-off boyfriend.
