Plot summary
Yang Yuhuan belongs to the Four Beauties of China. The Emperor first takes note of her beauty when she dances for his family, and his favorite, Consort Wu, senses his interest and chooses the young woman as a wife for her son, Li Mao. Yuhuan enters the imperial household and, over time, falls in love with Li Mao, who is gentle and kindhearted. Because she is drawn to the arts, she stands apart from the other royals and consorts. She has the affection of her new husband, and inside the palace a plot against the Crown Prince has begun to take shape.

- Director Cheng Shiqing revealed at a press conference on 22 July 2015 that Fan Bingbing was so involved in her role that she nearly lost her life once; the film took 6 years to finish, yet Bingbing said she never complained.
