Plot summary

A party from the British Cryptozoological Society travels to the Congo to look for the Mokele-mbembe, a cryptid said to be a plesiosaur called Elasmosaurus. Jonathan Marchant leads the group, which includes two television cameramen, his assistant, a doctor, a local guide named Amara and a helicopter pilot. On the flight, Jonathan learns that his son Luke has come along as a stowaway. A flock of large flying reptiles called pteranodons appears beside the helicopter, and the aircraft crashes in the jungle. Lost, the group finds the satellite phone broken, and Amara suggests going to a village they saw from the air.
