Plot summary
Amir was taken in as a boy by Mallam Sadan, who calls him son and raises him among his child followers. Now Amir straps on a suicide bomber's vest and walks out of the building. He forces a driver to tell him where to find Sister Dorcas, the woman who once ran the orphanage he came from. Elsewhere in the city, Nkem works the streets to raise five million naira for an operation for her brother Chidi at St. Luke's Hospital. A customer refuses to pay her, so she takes his money and runs. Amir and Nkem both hide in the same open carriage when they are chased.
