Plot summary
After a brutal war, the Empire of Zol holds the land and people of its rival Aquafa, all but the Fire Horse Territory, where packs of wild dogs still run loose and the deadly Black Wolf Fever lingers. A pack charges through a mine run by the empire, and the enslaved former soldier Van and a young girl, Yuna, are bitten. They are the only ones left alive after the attack. Out of bondage, the two look for a quiet place in the countryside. The fever spreads again, and as others hunt the pair, Van takes on the care of Yuna.
