- Director Mamoru Hosoda wanted a single performer to handle both the speaking and singing voice of Belle, and cast relatively unknown Kaho Nakamura, who was also involved in writing the lyrics so she could feel what she sang.
- Belle received five Annie Award nominations, including Best Independent Animated Feature, making it the second most-nominated Japanese anime film in the awards' history, tied with Ghost in the Shell and behind Suzume and The Boy and the Heron.
- After the film's release, Ochi in Kōchi Prefecture, which served as the prototype for filming, was certified by the Anime Tourism Association as one of the "88 Japanese Anime Mecca I Want to Visit", and the prefectural tourism bureau planned movie sightseeing routes to draw tourists.
- Belle was included in a Japanese high school art textbook as a teaching example of animation production; the textbook passed the audit of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology in March 2023 and was used in high schools from 2024.
