Plot summary
Robin Hood, an aged outlaw in England in 1247, keeps to himself in the wilderness and is troubled by the killings of his past. A young woman, Wainwright, hunts him down to avenge her kin, some of whom were among his victims. His oldest friend, Little John, then brings word that Will Scarlet and most of their other old followers have been killed or put to death. John, who farms under the name Edward for a family that owns the land, asks Robin to help him win back the farm and his wife Margaret.

- A24 acquired U.S. rights to the film for $4 million in a competitive situation at the Marché du Film, shortly after it was first shopped there.
- Director Michael Sarnoski said the crew filmed for just over 30 days, with the scenes on the farm taking three days, and the set wrapped by late March; Pat Scola served as cinematographer and the film was shot on 35 mm.
- The film was shot on location in Northern Ireland, with scenes filmed at Belfast Harbour Studios and out in the countryside at Silent Valley, Glenarm, and Murlough Bay, while post-production work was done at Yellowmoon in Holywood, County Down.
