Plot summary
Dr. Jennifer Stillman leaves New York for a job as a school therapist in Sierra Vista, Nevada. On her first day a strange boy at a crosswalk leaves her uneasy, and the welcome that follows is no warmer: Principal Ed Turner dislikes her methods, neighbors keep their distance, and Sheriff Ken treats her like a newcomer to be tested. Her patient Ben McCann-Miller, whose mother died in mysterious circumstances, is sure he is part alien and that his father from another world will one day carry him off. Ben lives with his adoptive father, Dr. Michael McCann, the town's doctor, who doubts therapy can help. As Jennifer looks into the death of Ben's mother the town closes ranks, and a creature begins killing people.
