Plot summary
At the library where Anna Quarrels keeps the rare books room, a man who calls himself Mr. Jamison asks to see Frankenstein's original manuscript and walks off with it. She hires the private detective David Raleigh to track him down. His name is Dr. Winston Berber, a scholar holding doctorates in physics, mathematics, folklore and philosophy who collects rare manuscripts. He already holds The Werewolf of Paris and The Mummy, he wants the first edition of Dracula, and he has built an Archetype Inducer to raise a three-foot-tall Dracula, Wolfman, Mummy and Frankenstein's Monster under his control. When Berber returns to the library for the Dracula manuscript, Anna holds him off with a pair of scissors and calls David.
