Plot summary
Two years after the Critters came to Grover's Bend, Brad Brown, now 15, arrives in the Kansas town to spend Easter weekend with his grandmother. A local man, Mr. Quigley, sells her strange eggs for the holiday and leaves the rest of his stock beside a furnace, where they begin to hatch. Out in space, the High Council's Zanti assigns Ug, Lee and Charlie to Earth, where Krites have been detected, and Charlie is reluctant to go back. Lee takes the shape of a model from a magazine. Driving through the countryside, Brad and Megan meet a woman who tells them of trouble in Quigley's shed.

- Mick Garris was set to write and direct The Fly II and wrote multiple drafts of it, but he lost patience with that production, left, and joined Critters 2 because he liked the script and New Line Cinema offered him creative input.
- The Chiodo Brothers, who handled the special effects on the first Critters, came back to build the creatures for the sequel, making more than 50 puppets for the film.
- Mick Garris first turned down the offer to direct Critters 2, then accepted, saying he was a big fan of the first movie and wanted the sequel to be scarier than it.
- Critters 2 is the last film in the series to be released in theaters; it was followed by Critters 3 in 1991.
