Plot summary
In 1971, Roger and Carolyn Perron move with their five daughters, Andrea, Nancy, Christine, Cindy and April, into an old farmhouse in Harrisville, Rhode Island. Their dog, Sadie, refuses to come inside. The girls find a boarded-up cellar during a game, and over the first nights doors open and close, every clock in the house halts at 3:07, and Carolyn wakes with bruises. Sadie is later found dead in the yard. Convinced something is in the house, Carolyn turns to Ed and Lorraine Warren, investigators of the paranormal. Lorraine, a clairvoyant, believes a malevolent spirit has attached itself to the family rather than to the house, so leaving may not free them. The Warrens agree to help the family and begin their investigation.
