Plot summary
In 1940, Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy are evacuated to the English countryside to live with Professor Kirke. Lucy, the youngest, climbs into a wardrobe and finds Narnia, a country the White Witch has locked in eternal winter without Christmas. There she meets Mr. Tumnus, a faun who serves the Witch but lets her go free. Peter, Susan and Edmund do not believe her story. Edmund also enters Narnia and meets the Witch, who calls herself Queen of Narnia. When the four go in together, they learn that the Witch's secret police have arrested Mr. Tumnus for letting Lucy go, and Mr. and Mrs. Beaver tell them that the lion Aslan has returned to free Narnia and crown the children at Cair Paravel.
