Plot summary
A saucer lands on Earth and the government takes it into custody. The occupant is a cat-like alien, Zunar-J-5/9 Doric-4-7, whose mother ship will leave the solar system before it can send a rescue, so he sets about repairing the craft himself. Through a collar that amplifies his telekinetic and telepathic powers, he trails the military to a laboratory where scientists study the saucer's power source, and he notices Frank Wilson, a researcher whose ridiculed theory is on the right track. Frank gives him the name Jake. Liz Bartlet, another scientist, storms into Frank's office upset at his jokes; Frank calms her with an introduction and a dinner invitation. Once she has gone, Jake shows Frank what he is and offers his knowledge of energy in exchange for help with his ship.
