The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1920) on Netflix

Plot summary

Franzis sits with an older man and describes what he, his fiancée Jane and his friend Alan lived through not long ago. In the town of Holstenwall, a fair has come, and a stranger called Dr. Caligari has obtained permission to set up a tent show. Franzis and Alan, who are both courting Jane, visit it. Inside a coffin-like box rests Cesare, a somnambulist asleep for many years, and Caligari rouses him so that he can answer questions from the audience. Alan wants to know how long he has left, and Cesare tells him he will die before dawn. Alan is stabbed in his bed that night. Franzis begins to look for the killer, with Jane and her father, Dr. Olsen, at his side.
