Plot summary
On location in Honolulu, the movie star Shelah Fane has met Alan Jaynes, a wealthy man she has known for a week. She will not agree to marry him before the Hollywood mystic Tarneverro, whose advice she trusts, has his say. Her friend Julie O'Neil thinks the psychic holds too much sway over her, and Julie herself has taken up with Jimmy Bradshaw, who handles publicity in the islands. Charlie Chan, an inspector on the Honolulu police, keeps up the manner of a simple merchant, though Tarneverro is not fooled. Chan brings up the killing of the film star Denny Mayo, three years old and never solved.
