Plot summary
In 1900, Jim Fallon, a timber baron, heads for the virgin redwood region of northern California. The land is homesteaded by a Quaker colony under Elder Bixby; the settlers use smaller trees for lumber and consider the giant sequoias sacred, refusing to log them. Fallon intends to take advantage of a new law, claim the land and make a fortune from the redwoods. He is drawn to Bixby's daughter, Alicia Chadwick, even as he plans to cheat the colony. Yukon Burns is Fallon's right-hand man, and the settlers hold their ground against the loggers. Other lumber men have their eyes on the same trees.
