Lilian Bond

Lilian Bond was an English-American actress who started out on the London stage, making her first professional appearance at 14 in a pantomime, Dick Whittington and His Cat, before joining the chorus of Piccadilly Revels. After she relocated to the United States she appeared in The Earl Carroll Vanities, a long run of Follow Thru and various Ziegfeld Follies productions, then moved into films in 1929 with the drama No More Children. She co-starred in eight more features through 1931, among them the Western Rider of the Plains, and in 1932 was named a WAMPAS Baby Star. Over the following two decades she took roles in 39 further films, playing Gladys DuCane in James Whale's The Old Dark House (1932) and Lillie Langtry in The Westerner (1940), perhaps her best-known part. Her career declined in the 1950s, when she worked mostly in television, and she retired from acting in 1958.
