Plot summary
Duke Berne was once a big shot, but he has three convictions behind him and fears that another will send him away for life. Fresh out of prison, he wants to stay straight. His old companions and Martin Fleming, a lawyer, draw him toward a holdup gang. Fleming's wife, Lorna, was once Duke's girlfriend; she tells him she still loves him and that she married Fleming for his money. A witness falsely identifies Duke as part of the gang. Duke threatens to expose Fleming's criminal dealings, and Fleming is forced to defend him. Fleming involves George Anderson, a young associate, in the defense.
